Against the Odds: Vikram Singh’s Rise from Startup to Tech Leadership with ScaleupAlly
Meet Vikram Singh, a resilient individual from the town of Pratapgarh, Uttar Pradesh, who made it through a difficult but heartening story in the technology world. Vikram, having completed his schooling from Lajpat Nagar, New Delhi, and earning a B.Tech in Computer Science in 2016 from Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technical University, faced significant obstacles in life, mainly due to lack of placement opportunities and the financial strains which followed.
Besides Vikram’s being a fan of technologies, he is not only energetic, but thrives on challenges. He has carved a niche in the IT industry by overcoming obstacles smoothly and embracing growth as it comes. If one were to describe Vikram, he is full of laughs and joy. His interests lie in discovering the depths of history and culture, and technology as well. While doing all that he is full of life, appreciates the company of friends and the magic of the world.
Early Struggles
With limited support and financial burdens on him, Vikram finished his Degree against all odds. He wondered how he would survive in the competitive job market where companies were reluctant to hire someone with such a background. The daunting question lingered, “Who would hire me?“
Of course, as it would happen, an opportunity did come along for a Startup, but the catch was that he had to work for free for three months. Well, this turned out to be a turning point for Vikram when he felt the urge or need to upgrade his suite of skills. And boy, did he give in the best of himself day and night-and yes, he honed his technical skills over the next three years.
The ScaleupAlly Chapter
Vikram’s journey led him to another startup, where he felt more comfortable than in an MNC due to his developing communication skills. However, when the COVID-19 pandemic struck in 2020, he lost his job. Amidst this uncertainty, he made a call to Manu Sir, whom he knew during his initial working days in his previous company. This resulted in another chance to shine bright. An Interview was scheduled with Suprabhat Sir, who became his guiding force. All was set! The leadership style of Suprabhat Sir allowed Vikram to take ownership of the projects himself, thus developing both as a professional and as a person.
He proudly recalls how ScaleupAlly gave him a very supportive environment during such tough times, unlike many firms during the pandemic, ScaleupAlly’s leadership has ensured no pay cuts or layoffs.
Pivotal Dilemma
After a year, with growing personal liabilities and tugging at economic compulsions, Vikram looked for better prospects offering double his salary. An exciting offer came his way, but he was torn between the opportunity of a new role and the trust built at Scaleupally. He finally joined another company, only to realise after ten days where his loyalties truly lay.
He reconnected with Manu Sir to communicate his desire to return. Scaleupally welcomed him back into their fold, matching his current salary, a shocker he was glad about. This moment solidified his belief in the company’s supportive culture and aligned vision.
Rising Through the Ranks
At Scaleupally, Vikram continued to perform fabulously, taking more responsibilities and direct client interactions that he used to be dreadful of. And with continuous mentorship, he went from being uncomfortable and even uttering a few words to clients to a more confident tech lead, leading big projects and maintaining clients satisfaction.
His journey has indeed thrown a lot of curveballs with many ups and downs. From studying in a government school all his years had denied him proper communication skills, and the intake of new technology stacks was quite a catch in the beginning. All these bottlenecks he successfully overcame with his determination, some help from his colleagues, and his self-learning ability, ultimately mastering the technologies that were required for the job.
A Word of Advice for the To-be-Techies
He is proud and contends that his choices have led to greater financial stability and confidence. For those still finding their way through the walks of education to career, Vikram advises:
1. Be more Aware: Do not readily believe what colleges promise. Learn about the job market and build realistic skills.
2. Be Patient: First employment offer, whatever the pay scale, should be accepted. A minimum one year at the company is a must, for this experience will pay later on.
3. Learn Constantly: Devote your time after work to developing yourself and learning from team leaders.
What makes Scaleupally Stand out?
Vikram values a lot of things when it comes to his workplace:
1. Positive Environment: “They make us feel like we belong to their family and show concern about our well-being,” says Vikram.
2. Team building: Camaraderie among team members leads to a respect-based strong bonding and, hence, better collaboration.
3. Growth Opportunities: Vikram affirms, “If I could rise up the ladder, it shows the opportunities are there. You just need to spot them!”
4. Company Culture: There is an open-door policy toward discussion, the culture is inclusive, which will make everyone important.
5. Learning Opportunities: Much prominence has been given to professional growth and open discussions.
In conclusion, Vikram’s story is a testament to resilience, adaptability, and the power of mentorship. From initial failures to tech lead, his story showcases how hard work, a supportive environment, and one’s willingness to learn can help him or her overcome the toughest challenges and find success in the tech industry.
