Introduction
Spare Space is an innovative hourly rental marketplace where users can discover and book underutilized spaces like photo studios, conference rooms, and music studios. The platform empowers individuals and businesses to monetize their spaces while offering affordable, on-demand access for professionals. ScaleupAlly partnered with the founder right from the ideation stage—playing a key role in shaping the business model, user flows, and overall product direction. We led the UI/UX design process from scratch, ensuring the platform was intuitive, scalable, and aligned with user expectations. This case study highlights how early strategic involvement translated a raw idea into a fully functional and market-ready digital product.
Methodology and Solution
- Business Understanding Workshops: Conducted in-depth discovery sessions with the founder to understand the operational and revenue model, user personas (hosts & guests), and marketplace dynamics.
- Competitor Analysis: Reviewed industry benchmarks and global competitors to identify feature gaps and usability enhancements suitable for the Indian market.
- User Journey Mapping: Designed detailed host and guest journeys—from onboarding to booking and payment—to ensure a smooth experience for both parties.
- Wireframing & Information Architecture: Created low-fidelity wireframes to define screen flows and navigational logic, ensuring usability and minimal friction in actions.
- UI/UX Design Execution: Developed a clean, scalable, and mobile-friendly design system that reflects trust, simplicity, and professionalism, ensuring ease of use for diverse users.
Results
- Functional Marketplace Launched: Enabled the successful launch of a working MVP with essential booking, listing, and space management features.
- Positive Early User Feedback: Early users appreciated the intuitive interface, quick onboarding, and the clarity of booking flows.
- Improved Host Engagement: Designed user-friendly host dashboards and listing forms, which simplified property listing and increased host participation.
- Clear Business Differentiation: The UI/UX positioned Spare Space as a unique player in the Indian hourly rental space ecosystem.
- Future-Ready Design: The platform design is scalable to accommodate new features like reviews, payments, and chat integrations without major redesigns.
- Investor & Stakeholder Readiness: The well-documented UX and clean UI design helped the founder pitch confidently to early-stage investors and partners.
