Data Driven Dreams: Jaspal’s Journey in Analysis

It was in the teeming heart of Jamshedpur, Jharkhand, that the journey of Jaspal Singh Jhorra started, aided by a vital curiosity in life and an instinctive knack for problem-solving. Like a child who dismantles a toy car to see how it works, as delightfully as he unraveled a jigsaw puzzle, the logical problems or various complex problems seemed to provide him with a great sense of joy.  In his free time he enjoys drawing and sketching, and evening walks may at times recharge his soul.

He did his schooling from KPS, Jamshedpur, and went on to pursue a bachelor’s in IT from the same city. The college days threw him into the arena of hard-core technical education where students were fighting for admissions in B.Tech. India’s Tech story, that we all know! It is during this time that he met Tarsem Singh, who by then had already started working in the IT sector. He offered Jaspal an invaluable opportunity to gain real-world experience while Jaspal continued his studies.

The ScaleupAlly Chapter

This was the start of Jaspal’s professional world. He joined ScaleupAlly, when it was just a small team, where Excel and Power BI were introduced to him. Having only one week of training, he learned data analysis and reporting for big organizations. He then shifted to Delhi, which brought new opportunities. He started with working on the BullsEyeCX project, and other similar projects where collecting, cleaning, and analyzing data to help clients understand their business landscapes were done, and worked along many more clients.

Embracing Challenges and Growth

The first real challenge he got was to a client from Australia, where upskilling was an ongoing requirement since the work constantly demanded to be in sync with evolving Tech Stacks. With every passing month, more and more clients were coming in, along with tighter schedules, thus requiring innovation and automation of processes. His zeal for work sometimes led him to blur the lines of balance, and often he found himself deeply engrossed in the work, forgetting basic self-care.

He went from Senior Developer to managing a full department and, over time, was able to mentor new team members in his department. The shy kid he once was grew into leadership and helped others to think through and solve problems on their own. Teaching became a natural extension as he learned to articulate complex concepts in simpler terms to help those at a struggle with a subject.

Passion for Problem-Solving

As he progressed, leadership encouraged him to find solutions all by himself, deepening his understanding of the work and cultivating ownership of it. Greater responsibilities came with new challenges, but these too had been opportunities for growth. The most important skill that he had honed in ScaleupAlly was problem-solving, a mantra he embraced, “Work hard until you find the solution.” This tenacity built his confidence in himself and prepared him for whatever lay ahead.

The Word of Advice to the To-Be-Techies

It is impossible to avoid challenges in the field of technology, but what is most important is the continuity and persistence of one’s effort. And the main advice he could give to someone who intends to enter this arena is to take responsibility, learn from others around, and in the lack of guidance, double down on your own effort. Never get distracted, keep pushing forward.
